Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 4, 2026
RemitSMS ("we", "our", "us") operates the RemitSMS mobile application and the website at sms.remitpay.in. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our services.
1. Information We Collect
a) Device Information
- Device brand and model (e.g., Samsung Galaxy S24)
- SIM card number and operator name
- Battery level and device status
b) Account Information
- Auto-generated email address for device registration
- Device nickname (if provided by you)
c) Usage Data
- Number of SMS messages sent through the service
- Points earned and redeemed
- Service uptime and heartbeat data
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
- Register your device on our SMS gateway network
- Assign and deliver SMS jobs to your device
- Track your earnings and process point redemptions
- Monitor device health (battery, connectivity) to ensure reliable delivery
- Improve the service by understanding usage patterns
3. SMS Sending
Important: The RemitSMS app sends SMS messages from your device on behalf of our clients. These messages are sent using your device's SIM card. Standard carrier SMS charges may apply based on your mobile plan. We recommend using a SIM with an unlimited SMS plan.
3b. Your Messages Stay on Your Device
RemitSMS can be used as your device's default SMS app. The content of the messages you send and receive personally is processed entirely on your device. We do not upload, transmit, or store the text of your personal messages, your conversations, or your contacts on our servers or anywhere else. We cannot read your messages.
Your contacts are read on your device only, so the app can show names instead of bare numbers and let you choose recipients. Your contact list is never uploaded.
The only message-related information that reaches our servers is the delivery status (sent, delivered, or failed) of messages sent for the optional business messaging service, identified by a job reference only — never by message content.
3c. Optional SMS Forwarding
RemitSMS includes an optional forwarding feature. It is off until you create a rule yourself — the app ships with no rules and forwards nothing by default.
- You choose which incoming messages a rule applies to, and you choose the recipients: your contact list, a selection you make, or up to five numbers you type in.
- Forwarded messages are sent from your own SIM card, directly to the recipients you chose. They are not routed through our servers.
- Standard carrier charges from your operator apply, exactly as if you had sent each message by hand. This is stated on screen and you must confirm it before a rule can be saved.
- Forwarding is limited to 100 recipients per day across all rules. Longer lists are spread across following days so each recipient is contacted once.
- You can pause all forwarding with a single switch, or cancel any batch that is part-way through, at any time.
You are responsible for having a lawful basis to message the people you add as recipients, and for complying with any applicable rules on unsolicited messages in your country.
4. Data Storage & Security
- All credentials and tokens are stored using AES-256 encrypted storage on your device
- Communication between the app and server uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Device tokens are stored as one-way hashes on the server — the raw token never leaves your device
- We do not store the content of SMS messages after delivery
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. Your data is only used internally for operating the RemitSMS service.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
6. Data Retention
- Device data is retained while your device is active on the network
- If you disconnect your device, your data is retained for 90 days, after which it is permanently deleted
- SMS delivery logs are retained for 30 days for billing and dispute resolution
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Disconnect your device at any time through the app settings
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Access your data through the web portal or app dashboard
8. Permissions
RemitSMS can be used as your device's default SMS app. When you choose to set it as the default, Android requires the following permissions:
- SEND_SMS — send the messages you write, and send messages for the optional features described above
- RECEIVE_SMS — receive incoming messages. As the default SMS app, RemitSMS is responsible for saving each incoming message to your device's message store; without this permission your messages would be lost
- READ_SMS — show your conversations and message history, read from your device's own message store
- RECEIVE_MMS and RECEIVE_WAP_PUSH — be notified when a multimedia message arrives
- READ_CONTACTS — show contact names instead of bare numbers, and let you choose recipients. Read on your device only
- READ_PHONE_STATE — detect available SIM cards for dual-SIM support
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS — show message and service notifications
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE — keep the messaging service running reliably
- INTERNET — communicate with the RemitSMS server for the optional business messaging service
- CAMERA — scan the QR code shown in the RemitSMS portal to connect this device to a business account. The camera is used only while you are scanning; no photo or video is recorded, stored, or uploaded
You can decline the default SMS app role and still use the rest of the app. You can change your default SMS app at any time in Android Settings.
9. Children's Privacy
RemitSMS is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
